From Madison to New Paris

At the time of this writing, the trip from Madison, Wisconsin to New Paris, Indiana is slated to take just under five hours. However, we do have to make our way through Chicago traffic, so let’s add at least an hour to that.

For this six-hour car ride home to the Hoosier State, it’s finally time for Wheat Thins and Cheez-Its, because we’ve proven that we cannot stay away from crunchy, cheesy snacks no matter how hard we try. With “Homeward Bound” by Simon and Garfunkel appropriately on the stereo, we are ready to complete our journey to find Inspiring STEM Across America.

If you’re not a native, you may only know “Hoosiers” as the athletic teams of Indiana University. However, since the early 1800’s, the people of Indiana have taken what may have been meant as an insulting moniker and made it their own.

Interesting Americana facts: the town of New Paris gets its name from New Paris, Ohio, which was in turn founded by a contingent from Paris, Kentucky…luckily this is where the trail of breadcrumbs about the name ends. Paris, KY was named after the French capital to honor French assistance during the American Revolution.

Why does KMC make our list of Inspiring STEM Across America? Well, for one, it’s our list, so you probably knew this was coming. Secondly, however, we came from humble beginnings and through dedication and passion, became a global influencer in the BAS field, patenting multiple technologies to make the built environment more comfortable, safe, and efficient.

From the beginning, we have been proudly making all-American products. When Ken Kreuter first established the business, we were engineering and manufacturing parts such as damper actuators. Gradually, the KMC product line grew, and in the 1990’s, we engineered and released the first of our proprietary digital controls and software: KMDigital.

Since then, our contributions to the industry have included our award-winning line of BACnet®-protocol direct digital controllers and TotalControl™ front-end software, as well as our specialized line of BACnet direct digital controllers, configuration utilities, and near field communication (NFC) mobile applications. We have also partnered with Intel® and Dell to develop KMC Commander™, a revolutionary platform for connecting building automation systems to the Internet of Things (IoT).  To this day, we are proud to continue to engineer and manufacture American-made products.

If you can’t tell, we are a little excited about what we do. Today, KMC Controls is proud to provide innovative, easy-to-use building automation and technology solutions. We want to be known for our customer focus, creativity, and dedicated, passionate employees.
